The Importance of Windshield Calibrations

The proper windshield calibrations are essential to ensure the driver-assisted technology in your vehicle is accurate. Driver-assisted technology has made things safer on the road for drivers. To get the most out of DATs, your windshield calibrations must be exact. Here is how proper calibration supports your driver-assisted technology.

1. Changing Lanes

Sensors in your windshield play a pivotal role in ensuring that your driver-assisted technology gets the correct information. If your windshield is not calibrated correctly, there is a huge safety risk that your assistive technologies in the vehicle will get incorrect information. This incorrect information can affect lane changes and more.

Lane-keeping assistance systems depend heavily on lane marking information transmitted via windshield cameras. If these monitors are not perfectly calibrated, they can affect the information. This is not the only assistance system that depends on a perfectly calibrated windshield. Your braking system also depends on it.

2. Braking

Many vehicles are outfitted with emergency braking systems that will engage when an obstacle is in front of the vehicle. This system relies on information that comes from sensors in your windshield. Making an emergency stop can be compromised if your windshield is not calibrated properly.

Your windshield plays a critical role in ensuring that the systems that you have come to rely on can operate properly. Correct calibration ensures that the systems in your vehicle can accurately evaluate your driving situation. Finding out too late that your windshield is not calibrated correctly could cause an accident.

3. Cruising

One of the adaptive safety features you may have in your vehicle is adaptive cruise control. Adaptive cruise control is a feature that ensures that when your vehicle is in cruise control mode, it will maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. This system relies heavily on sensors in your windshield.

Windshield replacement is often necessary. According to Glass.com, if you have a crack in your windshield greater than 12 inches, you need to replace your windshield as soon as possible. When you need to replace your windshield, you will also need windshield calibrations to ensure that the performance of your assistive driving technologies is still reliable.
